Google Business Profile Verification Stuck or Failed? What to Do
By the Top the Map team · Updated October 23, 2026
Short answer: Google decides how you verify, and today that's usually a short video. Most rejections happen because the video doesn't clearly show where the business is, that you run it, and the tools of your trade. If you're stuck with no options left, use Google's verification support form instead of making a new profile.
1. How Google verification works now
Google picks the method based on your business, and you may only be offered one. Common options are a recorded video, a live video call, a phone or text code, or an email code. Postcards are less common than they used to be.
2. Why verification videos get rejected
- Not one continuous take. The video has to be recorded in one go, with no cuts or editing.
- No proof of location. It doesn't show the street, nearby signs or the outside of the business.
- No proof you run it. It doesn't show you opening the door, using a key, or business documents.
- No tools of the trade. Nothing shows what the business actually does.
- Blurry, dark or rushed footage. Reviewers can't confirm what they're seeing.
- Details don't match. The name or address in the video doesn't match the profile.
3. A video that passes: shot list
- Start outside: the nearest street sign, then your building and street number.
- Keep recording as you walk to your door and show your permanent sign or branding.
- Open the door with your key and walk inside.
- Show your workspace, equipment and the tools you use with customers.
- Hold business documents up close, like your license or registration, for a few seconds each.
Keep it steady, well lit and around one to two minutes. If you travel to customers, show your branded vehicle and tools instead of a storefront.
4. After you submit
Reviews can take several business days. Avoid editing your name, address or category while it's pending, since changes can restart the review.
5. Rejected, or "no more ways to verify"
After a failed video, some owners find every other option has disappeared. Don't create a new profile. Instead:
- Use Google's Business Profile verification support form (not the general contact form) and ask for a live video verification.
- Have your license, registration and photos of your signage ready to share.
- If the form gets no response, try again, or post in the Google Business Profile Help Community.

Quick answers
How long does Google verification take?
Codes by phone, text or email are often instant. Video reviews usually take a few business days, and sometimes longer when Google is backed up.
Can I verify a home-based business?
Yes. If customers don't come to you, set it up as a service-area business with your address hidden, and show your vehicle, tools and paperwork in the video.
Why does Google only give me one way to verify?
Google chooses the method based on your business type, location and history. You can't pick, so it pays to get that one attempt right.
