Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Get It Back
By the Top the Map team · Updated October 23, 2026
Short answer: find out why it was suspended, fix that first, then appeal through Google's appeals tool with your documents ready to upload. Appeals sent before the problem is fixed usually fail.
A suspended profile disappears from Google Maps and search, so calls and direction requests stop overnight. The good news: many suspensions come from fixable setup mistakes, not anything you did wrong on purpose.
1. Figure out why it happened
Google sends an email when a profile is suspended, usually with a link to the policy it thinks was broken. The most common causes we see:
- Extra words in the business name. "Smith Dental - Best Dentist San Diego" instead of the name on your sign.
- An address customers can't actually visit. Virtual offices, mailboxes or unstaffed coworking desks.
- A home address showing when you go to customers. Service-area businesses like plumbers and painters should hide their address.
- Info that doesn't match the real world. The name, address or phone differs from your signage, website or paperwork.
- Lots of big edits at once. Changing name, address and category in one day can trigger a review.
- A second profile for the same business. See our guide on duplicate listings.
2. Fix the cause before you appeal
Correct the name, hide the address if you travel to customers, remove duplicates and make sure your website and signage match the profile. Google reviews the profile as it stands when you appeal.
3. Get your proof ready first
After you submit an appeal, Google gives you a short window to add evidence, so have the files on hand before you start. Useful proof includes:
- Business license or business tax certificate
- Business registration or fictitious business name (DBA) statement
- A recent utility or phone bill for the business address
- Clear photos of your permanent storefront sign, if customers visit you
The business name and address on your documents should match the profile exactly.
4. File the appeal
- Click the appeal link in Google's suspension email, or open the Business Profile appeals tool while signed in to the account that manages the profile.
- Choose the suspended profile and review the reason Google gives.
- Submit the appeal, then upload your evidence right away.
- Check back in the appeals tool for the status.
5. While you wait
- Don't create a new profile. It counts as a duplicate and can make things worse, and you'd start over with zero reviews.
- Don't keep editing the suspended profile.
- If the appeal is denied, look for anything still out of line, gather stronger proof and contact Google Business Profile support.
Rather have us fix it?
We'll find the cause, clean up the profile, gather the right proof and file the appeal for you. Our Profile Setup & Fix is $149, one-time (normally $299, Founding Client price through Dec 31), and you stay the owner of your profile. Google makes the final call on every profile, so no honest company can promise an outcome, but we'll handle every step and keep you posted.
Quick answers
How long does a Google Business Profile appeal take?
It varies. Some are decided in a few days, others take a few weeks. Check the status in the appeals tool rather than filing repeat appeals.
Will I lose my reviews if my profile is suspended?
Reviews are hidden while the profile is suspended. A reinstated profile normally comes back with them, which is one big reason not to start a new profile instead.
Can I just make a new profile?
We don't recommend it. A new profile for the same business is a duplicate, which breaks Google's rules and can get the new one suspended too.
